Spilling Ink

Hello, writers! Looking to write an awesome story? Read Spilling Ink by Anne Mazer and Ellen Potter! Spilling Ink is the young writer’s handbook, and new best friend! My friend, Lily, gave this to me for my birthday.

Spilling Ink is a very funny and helpful book. It includes chapters on Ugly First Drafts, Inspiration, Convincing Your Characters That They’re Alive, Naming Characters, Plot, POV, Suspense, Title Tattle, Dialogue, Description, Revision, Journaling, Two Heads are Better Than One, Writing Process, Keeping Readers Awake, Writer’s Block, Begging, Borrowing, and Stealing, Criticism, and Spilling Secrets. It’s a glorious book that contains many examples and tips. There are also “I Dare You” sections that include a little optional tip to challenge yourself.

I would recommend this book for ages 8 and up. It’s not too challenging, and I think writers of all ages would love this handy little guide.

About Twig

My name is Twig. I am a thirteen-year-old with a confession to make. I read past my bedtime. And to further annoy my mom, I am habitually late to the dinner table. “Just one more chapter!” Besides reading, I enjoy photography, dance, writing, drawing, and music. I play the violin and the piano, and I am in my school’s choir and orchestra. But usually, you will find me with my head wedged in a book. I really get into my reading. I started this blog because I know a lot of kids who have trouble finding that perfect book to just enjoy. I want to help those people by writing reviews and sharing my enthusiasm for books!
